Senator Slotkin Introduces Bill Barring the Feds From Securing Elections
Trump would need Congress' permission to send law enforcement or troops.
Federal troops should be barred from securing November’s elections, says Senator Elissa Slotkin, who Thursday introduced with Democratic colleagues the Protect Our Polls Act to do so.
Noncitizen voting is a concern across America, including in Ms. Slotkin’s state. Chinese University of Michigan student Haoxiang Gao voted in Ann Arbor in October 2024 — and his vote counted, as it was processed before he turned himself in. He had to surrender his passport when he was charged, but he used another one to flee the country the day before President Trump took office last year.
Yet Ms. Slotkin thinks federal security measures as the bigger problem. “President Trump has been saying the quiet part out loud: he wants to undermine our elections any way he can, and he refuses to rule out sending uniformed military to the polls, or to collect ballots and voting machines,” she says. “Our legislation prevents President Trump from weaponizing our military and armed federal officers to interfere in our elections.”
Ms. Slotkin says the bill “closes an existing loophole by requiring Congress to pass a Joint Resolution of Approval before the president can send troops or federal law enforcement to election sites for the only exception to the blanket ban: to repel armed enemies of the United States.”
The president “must also provide Congress with intel, legal justification, and evidence that state or local government cannot handle a threat on their own, at least 48 hours before deploying forces.”
Democrats are pouncing on remarks Mr. Trump has made about “nationalizing” election integrity. But those words have not been met with action.
Michigan state Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt, a Republican running in the August 4 gubernatorial primary, has asked the U.S. Department of Justice to oversee the 2026 election.
Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, who will administer the election, is running for governor in the Democratic primary. After learning of the illegal Chinese vote, Ms. Benson found that at least 15 other noncitizens voted in 2024. Yet she never made an adjustment to stop the next Haoxiang Gao from casting a ballot.
The bill won’t pass. It’s sponsored by Democrats, and Republicans hold the House and Senate. But it represents a furtherance of the battle between Ms. Slotkin and the White House. She even referred to it when introducing the bill.
Ms. Slotkin and five other senators in November made a video encouraging military members to “stand up for our laws and our Constitution,” implying the Trump administration is acting outside them.
Mr. Trump called it “sedition” and ordered an investigation into Ms. Slotkin, who previously worked for the CIA and the Pentagon. Nothing has become of it.
Ms. Slotkin said Thursday, “If Trump goes ahead and tries to send military to collect votes, to collect voting machines, this bill is meant to protect them from that illegal order.”

There is only one reason why the commiecrats are so adamant about election integrity and ballot integrity and that is they are benefiting from massive fraud. In commie states they have eliminated all election and ballot integrity measures and now they are pushing to make investigating election and ballot fraud illegal.
