President Trump Backtracks, Signing AI Executive Order

The document signed Tuesday has one big change from the order he refused to sign last month.

President Trump reversed course Tuesday, signing an executive order encouraging technology firms to give the government early access to artificial-intelligence models.

Mr. Trump canceled a signing ceremony for the order hours before it was to happen May 21, with tech executives on their way to Washington and the White House, after last-minute lobbying from the industry. The document he signed Tuesday is largely the same one — only it shortens the government’s review period from 90 days to 30.
