Maine Gov. Janet Mills Appears To Restart Democratic Senate Campaign Amid Graham Platner's Sexting Scandal
Mills remains on the June 9 primary ballot after only suspending her bid in April.
Maine Governor Janet Mills made her first campaign communication Monday since suspending her Senate primary bid a month ago after married frontrunner Graham Platner’s sexually explicit texts to numerous women leaked over the weekend.
Ms. Mills, 78, halted her run April 30, saying, “I very simply do not have the one thing that political campaigns unfortunately require today: the financial resources.” But she remains on the June 9 ballot, having failed to send Maine’s secretary of state written notice of her campaign’s closure.
She tweeted from her campaign account Monday, the first post since her “statement suspending my candidacy for the U.S. Senate”: “Happy Pride Month, Maine! Everyone deserves the freedom to live authentically and marry who they love without fear. I’m proud to stand with the LGBTQ+ community, today and every day.”
